Plants – Agave Endemic 1 – Cuco di Indjan

The agave arubensis is endemic to Aruba and one of the two agave species native to Aruba.  This species can be spotted south of the Fontein area.  It is seriously threatened by over development and commercial sales for landscaping.  It grows in the shape of a rosette with succulent leaves plus a spike on the end and produces yellow flowers.  The DNM (Department of Nature and Environment) has put it as #1 on the list of Aruba endangered flora.  There is a large fine and jail time for messing with this plant!
