American Kestrel

The American Kestrel falco sparverius is part of the falcon family.  “Kinikini” as this beauty is known in our local language of Papiamento feeds on mice, lizards and insects.  They do not use their own nests when breeding.  They are known to use the nests of pigeons or a hole in a tree.  They can be very aggressive if you happen to pass near a nest.  Wear a hat as they have been known to swoop down at anyone who comes close to their young.  These beauties are known for their ability to hover over one spot and are acrobatic fliers when courting their mate.
